I am re posting this post here in hope of getting more response.
I am looking for 1/48 50 cal for my humvee and M1s and just happened upon the Verlinden's 50 cal. Only problem is that the official picture is too small to make out the details.
Does anyone know if this is the current one used on most modern US armor? How is the quality on this kit?
Are there any other alternatives for 1/48 50 cal besides having to buy a complete model.

I feel your pain. The RB Model for Tamiya is the best looking to me. I think the Verlinden ones are fine. The biggest problem with 50 cals in most kits in all scales is with the mounts. I'll find a link for you. I wish Live Resin would do one. Use a bit of creative work to match your reference photo.
Here's the article but it focuses on ww2 but still useful info for you

Some nicely finished ones by others

Here's my past attempts - I used Hauler 50 cal conversion

and the DToys M1151 conversion (This one will get the RB barrel when I get interested in finishing it again lol)

Thanks for the links CA Greg especially the one with your Generation Kill diorama.
Question on Hauler and RB 50 cal is do they include the body and barrels (complete 50 cal) as well or are they just upgrades to a kit's existing 50 cal. I'm trying to give the 50 cal to the Tamiya's Humvee which does not have any.
Does any one have a closeup of the Verlinden's 50 cal?
Tim

The Hauler ones are a complete gun resin and pe. You can get it at track48.com
http://www.track48.com/shop/product.php?productid=512&cat=0&page=1
The RB mdel is just upgrade parts but has the barrel as one piece which is nice.
Try google for 'verlinden 50 cal pic' and you should be able to get some closeups. If you are new to modelling, I would go with the Verlinden because the Hauler and RB Models has some small fiddly pieces you might not enjoy (I know I have limited patience for it) and the Verlinden price is better.
I look forward to your project now
ps there's a 1/48 group build going on if you want to sign up
