Hi guys,
I have a question for you about thinned paint. I read one time in Fine Scale Modeler that once you use your thinned paint for airbrushing to not keep it and throw it away. I always like to mix up a little more than I need just so I have all that I need at that time. I hate to throw anything away if I can still use it. Properly stored I would think one could keep it around for a little while.
How about all you other modelers. How long do you keep your thinned left-over paint around before you end up throwing it away?
Also I just bought me some Model Master metalizer paints and this is my first time for using that type of paint. The instructions on the labels don't really tell you all that much, and the Testors site didn't have any kind of good guide on using their metalizers. At least not that I could find. Do any of you know a good site or source of info for reading up on using and tips for the MM metalizers?

Thanks and good modeling,
Wayne

I use Tamiya paints and thin with alcohol. I usually mix them in empty Tamiya bottles that I save. I will keep the thinned paints through the painting stage. So they may be around a week or more. After I'm done, I wash the bottles out.

I have never had any problems with this method. Now, I only mix very small amounts at a time so that I don't waste what is very expensive paint.

Don't throw it right out! Save it and you'll be fine.

Hi Wayne

I think it depends on the paint...

I've added Isopropyl Alcohol to Tamiya paint and kept it for years with no problem...

With enamels it's another story... adding thinners seems to upset the chemical balance and the paint starts to "go off". I've got some un-thinned 25 year old enamels that are fine... but whenever I've added thinners they don't keep.

Hope this helps

Rowan
