Yep. What a waste.
How many nations would need/want those tanks and armour... even for police forces or fire fighting..
Or export and sell it to other countries..

Even for scrap metal, aluminium, copper,steel...a HUGE fortune there just lying there to waste..

Well John...considering that a lot of people in the world actually needs food, the weapons could be however considered as a sort of waste ... I agree with you when you say that they should at least recycle the materials
Anyway, that's an off topic and I usually avoid talking about politics.
It would be great doing a big diorama reproducing a Russian scrapyard like this one...

here some larger pics

Sorry about being off-topic...

Resell or recycle materials, but leaving them there to turn it into a huge pile of rust... is a waste.

I really hope that they have taken the plastic explosive out of the ERA armour or they are just asking for trouble.

Since these T72 tanks were made by the Soviet Union would they not have composite armour in the front of the hull and the turret that could impact on how easily they can be scrapped ? They are not the crappy M and M1 "Monkey Models" export versions that were sold in the Middle East

Its much better that they rust away in peace than be used by the likes of Syria

Yes, I agree with your second statement.

Regarding the first point, the explosive inserts were probably sold on the black market years ago, these tanks didn't have the inserts fitted when they were supposed to (i.e Chechnya) because of corrupt supply officers.

I do remember reading that the T80's in Chechnya had the explosives in the ERA reactive armour removed by corrupt officials but I guess I never really belived that they could risk the lives of their tankers in this way.

I should have known better
