hi guys quick question. after priming a figure with acrylic primer and going onto painting should i be using acrylic thinner as i find when i apply the paint straight to the figure i cant get it to stick as such, cheers

im using tamiyas grey acrylic primer, and also have tamiya acrylics

You may have picked up a bad run of primer.

Tamiya acrylics have a terrible reputation when used for figure painting. They are excellent when airbrushed but not suitable for brushpainting

Yep, the problem is not the primer. It's the Tamiya acrylics. They are nearly impossible to brush paint. For brush painting figures, Vallejo paint is the best, no questions.
