Hi there!

Some time ago I have finished a little vignette. Maybe some of you have already seen it, but for those who did not I present this build. The idea of making this little vignette came when I realized I don't need to be deadly serious with my every model

One thing that I really like in scratch building is that I don’t need to stick to any assembly instructions (as far as it does not complicate the build). So below you can see that I start one thing, then skip to another and next I come back to finish what was started in the beginning.

Here I used a Preiser figure to make sure the size of my skeleton is OK:

And again I came back to modeling the base:

Then I added some detail to the bicycle – like this 1:72 helmet:

And here is the cyclist fixed to the base:

Now the most difficult part – running dogs in 1:72

And finally the ready vignette:

Hi Anthony,

I made this little vignette during a week holiday and then finished it for another week, working in the afternoons. The bicycle is scratch built but I'm sure there are some kits on the market (without spokes and some other fine details).

Hi Greg,
you are right - all my models gave me lots of fun, but this is my first funny vignette

Peter, this is superb work!

The wheels, hmm, i suspect a PE set, otherwise you are a genius !
I miss a little bit of painting for the soldiers face.

Hi guys,

Everything here is scratch built (except: figure head, cap, shoes and equipment - which come from a Preiser kit; and of course the grass...

The bicycle frame, as well as the tires and wheel rims are made of steel wire coated with some thin plastic layer (I bought it in DIY shop among accessories for making Christmas tree decorations). The fenders and the back rack are made of remaining bits of some PE fret. The seat spring is made of fine copper wire wound on a precision drill bit.

And here is how I make the wheels with spokes (although the tutorial shows how I made motorcycle wheels - the idea is the same).

I agree it’s clever but I don’t think I’m a genius. And you are right - I still need to practice my figure painting

Great , thanks for showing.
Is the brass gear a "chance" product (something you found with the right measures) or made specially for this also.

I'm really impressed!

I am stunned by how much detail there is in this for it being 1:72 scale. Excellent job.

Are you sure that’s not just a large match stick?? jk

So much great detail at such a tiny scale, beautiful work and fun too.

Hello Peter,

I totally admire your self-made spokes!
I was wondering how to do this in larger scales (plastic sprues just don't look good enough) - and your tutorial is a real eye-opener!

Thank you very much for that!

One last question:
What material do you use for the spokes?
It looks like hair ?!?

Cheers

Thomas

Hi,

Yes, people sometimes say that the matchstick must be enormous If everything goes according to plan - I'll pack four vignettes in my jacket pockets and take them to a competition this weekend.

Thomas - you are right, I use artificial hair to make motorcycle spokes. For a bicycle however, it would be too thick. That's why I used a single fibre from an elastic thread
