Hi all,
I am not an expert in German armor so that has a lot to do with my basic question, plus the fact that it is for a 'paper' panzer too. I am working on the E-100 Jagdpanzer and have put the tow shackles on the vehicle (not glued yet) and was wondering to they 'hang' vertical or would they be 'tightened' against the hull? What was normal for German vehicles of the time?
Thanks,
John

Hi John,
I believe that all things being equal, the U-shaped towing shackles pretty much hung plumb to the ground (i.e, straight down).
The pins don't really "tighten" the u-shaped portion to the vehicle. They simply screwed into the opposite side of the shackle with the inside clearance unaffected, so that the shackles hung "loose" in their mounting holes.
Unless there was something like dirt, a tow cable, another part of the vehicle hull, etc. that was in the way, the shackles just hung straight down.
HTH,

Awesome, thanks gents. Never been a 'real' armor guy so my experience very limited. And I have just made the jump from aircraft in the last year or so, so lots of learning to do!
Thanks again,
John
