Hi Everybody:

I am depicting the interior of the hatch as shown here, i.e. there is no periscope attached to the inside of the hatch. So, then how do I depict the other side of the hatch? Do I slice off the molded on periscope as shown on the Academy part I have laying on the PE instruction sheet? Do I then use the PE part shown at the bottom of the instructon sheet (part 44)? Or do I leave the Academy part as-is and not use part 44?

Thanks.

Bob

The guard on the topside stays on reguardless. The only difference is the plate on inside, not there if the periscope is installed, unless you cut a whole for the scope

Slice off the periscope top and use part 44.

Robert,

I served on many M113's. The guard on the drivers hatch is a cast on piece on the actual vehicle. It protects the infrared periscope that the driver can use. The parts from the PE sheet (#'s 11, 44) simulate the missing parts. The kit has a small periscope in the top of the hatch that is not actually there (this should be removed before the guard is put on the hatch). The actual periscope would not be shown installed in the hatch unless in use. That periscope was basically never used, but if the infrared driving lights were used, it allows the driver to see.

Hope this helps.

Yes, I know the guard will stay. It was the molded on periscope on the outside part of the hatch that I was worried about. I think you guys answered it. I will remove the molded on periscope on the outside part and use part 44.

Thanks.

Bob
