Ok, I've researched everything I have here. I'm striking out on what vehicles may have been used by the Germans. If my research is right, the 9th and 10th SS were in the process of resupply and receiving reinforcements. What armor would have been seen in the area? Come on Gorillas, point me the right way.

I am doing a 9th SS PzKpfw IV for the campaign. After snooping around on the internet, and asking a few questions - the following information was provided to me. If you want to do a 9th SS vehicle, this should help. This is all courtesy of Ron Klages.... many thanks to him for this info - as it was invaluable to me and my search. I still need to come up with a few pictures - but I have a couple of books on the way that should help.

I have been checking my library on the situation of the 9.SS Pz.-Rgt. at Arnheim and I have reached the conclusion that there were no Pz.IVs, Pz.Vs or StuG IIIs available to the unit at Arnheim.

In Normandy fighting the regiment had its first battalion with 79 Panthers in it's 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th companies and the second battalion with 48 Pz IVs in its 5th and 6th companies and 40 StuG IIIs in its 7th and 8th companies. From several sources, as noted below, on 20 August 1944 they pocessed only 20 operational panzers of all types and on 4 September 1944 they turned over 8 Panthers and 2 Pz.IVs to the 11. Panzer-Div.

When the kampfgruppe, "Kampfgruppe Harzer", for the 9. SS Panzer-Division was formed on 27 August 1944 it is noted that the SS-Panzer-Rgeiment 9 was not included since it had been sent to northern Holland for rest and reforming. It alsso noted that it pocessed no operational panzers of any type at that time.

The kampfgruppe at Arnheim consisted of the following elements of the 9. SS Panzer-Division on 16 September 1944:

Div.-Begleitkompanie with 120 men
1 platoon SS-Feldgendarmerie-Kp. 9 with 60 men
2 Alarmkp. of SS-Pz.Rgt. [no panzers] and men as infantry
2 Alarmkp. SS PzGren-Rgt. 19 without heavy weapons
2 Alarmkp. SS PzGren-Rgt. 20 without heavy weapons
2 Alarmkp. SS PzGren.-Art.-Rgt. 9 without guns as infantry
3 companies of SS.-PzA.A 9 with 400 men
1 company SS-PJA 9 with 120 men
1 company of SS-Flak-Abt. 9 with 4 Flak guns and rest as infantry
1 companie of SS-Pz-Pi-Batl. 9 with 60 men as infantry
1 gemischte company of SS Nachr.-Abt. 9 with 80 men
1 company SS Nachschubtruppen 9 as infantry
1 company SS-Wirtschafts Btls. 9 with 70 men as infantry
2 companies of SS-Sanitäts-Abt. 9

A total of around 2500 men and the following vehicles:

SS-Pz.AA 9 had:
10 SdKfz 234/1 and /3
15 SdKfz 251/9
15 SdKfz 250/1 and 251/1

SS-PJA 9:
2 Jagdpz. IV

SS Flak-Abt. 9:
3 Mobel wagens with 3.7cm Flak
1 SdKfz 10/4 with 2cm Flak

SS-Pz.Pi.-Abt. 9
2 Sdkfz 251/7

The Pz.IVs at Arnheim were from:
II./SS-Pz.-Rgt. 10 [g and H] with 12 plus 4 StuG IIIs.
Pz.-Ersatz-Rgt. Bielefeld/Pz.Kp. Mielke:
2 Pz.IVs [G and H] and 6 Pz. IIIs

I'm doing a 9th SS 250/1 and am having no luck in finding a reference of how the beast was painted. I'm waiting on a copy of "German Armoured Units at Arnhem" which hopefully clarifies some of this mystery, but would still like to get some heads up and cross reference.

So, does anybody know the camo schemes used? Did the halftracks still carry all of their tactical marks?

Any help is appreciated!

The most common camoscheme used by the germans in the Arnhem Area was Three colored. A base of dessert-yellow with Green and Red brown stripes
In the book German Armored units at Arnhem you can also see that not much vehicles did carry Tactical marks only camo and the vehiclenumber and usually that was it
