Anyone interested in a short group build for small scale?

I just finished my first 1/72 model, a Merkava, tonight and am psyched. I hope to get a few pictures up. I really like the results and this has reinvigorated my enjoyment of the hobby.

I think this would be a great time to try small scale and the investment in both time and money will be minor compared to 1/35. I'm amazed at the quality of some of the newer kits and I think this would be a real eye-opener for a few of you.

If you want to give this a try, let me know. I think we could do kits from any period, any type, etc. I think doing some kits in this size will help hone your modeling skills too.

I'd go for a small scale (1/72-1/76) build. I like modeling in the tiny scales.

I've got a Mark IV Female in 1/72 - I might consider depending on timing, I'm in Cover up and RMG so time is precious.

OK, must be some more interest out there...

I'm all for it. Can't decide between the 7TP or a BRDM-1, maybe I'll do both.

Dunno if my eyesight would be up to it, but i'm definitely getting more interested in some of the small scale stuff that's out there. The quality and variety seems to be improving in leaps and bounds as well. If you don't already know it, take a look at this site:

I'm game! I have the Revell/Germany's M1A1, Bradley, Leopard 2A5, Challenger, and Warrior in a box some where. I also have both of Priesers 1/72 Modern Infantry sets to go along with them. Blast Models has several photo etch sets for this scale.

I'm also up for a group build. I bought out the later releases from Hasegawa and are working through them. Also have a Italeri King Tiger and some Revell stuff coming in.

I can definitely see how collecting models can become its own addiction and hobby!

I'm also looking forward to working more on my bases and dioramas. I found some great cutout plaques at Michaels for a few bucks last weekend that are perfect for this scale. Combined with the stuff available due to HO scale trains, and you can really go to town on that aspect. I have my Celluclay ready!

Well, it seems like we have some interest now.

I just got Revells new Merkava 3 and am absolutely amazed at the quality. Also have the Bradley and it is spectacular too.

When do you guys think you'd like to start? I don't think we need to spread this out over months as the idea is to maybe get a kit and try out the scale...

I'm ready, you name the time frame! :-)

I'd volunteer to head it up. I'd suggest very simple rules:

1. Build a small scale (1/72 or 1/76) vehicle.
   
2. Can be plastic, white metal, resin or any combination.
   
3. Can use any aftermarket or scratchbuilding materials.
   
4. Can be out-of-box.
   
5. Can be part of a diorama, on a base or stand alone.
   
6. Any ground combat or support vehicle from any era.
   
7. No aircraft, but airfield support vehicles are acceptable. An aircraft can be part of the diorama, i.e., a fuel truck refueling an aircraft.
   

I'll have to look at the campaign calendar to see if and when it will fit into the 2004 schedule. I'm not adverse to the item being used in another group build or campaign, i.e., a 1/72 scale tank destroyer being used in both this build and the tank destroyer build.

Now somebody design a ribbon with a magnifying glass on it.

Any other suggestions?

Well, I'd really like to get a Revell Abrams and do it up ala OIF. Maybe even a mini vignette.

So...Rob's rules seem fine. If he can check out the calendar, that's great.

I think the build time should be fairly brief. A couple weeks tops.

Maybe we should really try a recruit a few people who have never considered small scale and get them to shell out $9 for a nice Revell kit. I do believe it would be a real eye-opener (and eye-crosser ) for some!

If this will take place after the RMG Campaign has ended, I'll be in. If not, I'll be happy to watch the building of those little giants.... I just love this small stuff.

Just name the time and I am ready. I will look at some small scale stuff tonight and make an order based on the assumption that it will be a go.

With all the flak regarding campaigns and such, maybe we should make this an informal group build. I can create a folder where we can upload our in progress and completed photos.

The only difference is there won't be a campaign ribbon issued, but we don't build for ribbons.

I thought of a name. "Operation Stocking Stuffer", (get it? little kits that could fit in your Christmas stocking). We could start and end it in December (1-31). That's a quick build.

What is the problem with having a campaign? Would the fact it would be short help ameliorate any problems with it?

Since I'm doing this in my spare time anyway, I'd love to get a ribbon for it...
