I went to Ebay looking for a compressor, BEFORE reading the numerous posts here.
I should've kicked tires better.
Anyway i bought a little oilless compressor from
Airbrush City.
It didnt have a tank.
I later realized I really should've went for the higher up model with a tank,
my Badger and Aztek both 'spit' on the litle compressor.
I called Airbrush City to see if they'd let me ship the little one back and upgrade, and they were agreeable, and courteous.
I have a new one hp model with the tank en route, and they said after I get it just ship the old one back in the container for the new one.
I'm very pleased with them, and recommend you consider them if youre in the market for one.

I'm sure there are other fine vendors as well, but I always appreciatte good customer service.

nice to know some decent companies out there these days instead of you bought it tough tity seem to forget customer service these days nice one to them, hey what aztek you using see if you can get paint out of it when you screw the comp down below 20 psi I can't and I cant get it below on my iwata either so how can those people who claim to spray at 15 and below psi manage it?

I'm running an Aztec 430 and a Badger 200 (single action, GREAT beginner brush)
I kick off the little compressor, it goes to about 40 psi on the needle.
I start a spray, it drops to almost 20 psi, either brush.
It sprays a decent stream, but you can see it spit in the Badger, and it makes a little less difference on the Aztec regardless of where I have the double action trigger.
I noticed it the worse on the Badger, bought the new compressor and did it with water first.
It would flat spray in bursts. The Aztec can obviously go much lower, but it still pulses a little.
I did a large area coverage of Light Ghost grey on an F15, and it was fine, but I would've hated to try a fine line Luftwaffe camo job with it.
The little one is pretty quiet but only 1/8 a pony.
I called Airbrush City and ran it through with them, and I asked if i could "upgrade."
They were real cool about it and happy to do it.
I figured I was in real trouble since I picked it up from Ebay.
(Wife is already wanting to scalp me, another compressor is dog-house for sure)
I spoke with the customer service rep, and she was real helpful, and I can keep the mini until the 1 hp model gets here in case i do need a spray before it arrives.
I'm sure theres plenty of decent vendors but I was pleasantly surprised by how agreeable they were to letting me admit I underbought my needs, and am now "educated."
They were really great to me.
I hope if anyone else tries them, that they are as equally delighted.
As long as that holds, I'll feel comfortable recommending them.
Theyre obviously bigger than just scale model airbrushing, they are into the whole shooting match.
But overall, the Badger is a tank, and tough, and BTW has the default needle removed and a fine installed instead.
The Aztek worked at 20-25 psi no problems on the .40 mm gray (general coverage) tip on their 1/8 hp compressor.
However I cant wait to get the new one, and run both.
Badger for washes, Aztek for tighter detail
Hope this answered your question :-)

Thanks
Read a post from another gentleman who also advised took him three tries to get the right one.
I'm now on the second and do think it would be more 'wife-friendly' if it pumped air in the tires of the car, etc.
I think the new one will (it just got here) but I'll need some other adapters...
Frankly my dear, as long as it sprays the paint well...

Make sure you have a moisture trap for it, especially if you live in a humid climate. Compressed moisture could be a reason for it's spitting, although, in your case, it sounds more like low pressure. I have destroyed a couple high dollar pnuematic air tools because of rust inside the mechanisms, I raised Holy Heck with my boss about that. I didn't get anything for the $590 it took to replace my air ratchet and impact wrench, but he did buy new moisture traps for the shop and he drains the compressor every day. Make sure you do that too.

Just to stick my two cents in here, I also have the Campbell Hausfield compressor and it works beautifully for me. The only consideration I would make in the future if I had to do it again would be to skip the moisture trap CH sells and go with an inline trap in the airhose. It is tough to get those 1/4 connections tight around the moisture trap since it won't attach directly to the compressor and you have to introduce another hose. Otherwise the noise is handable indoors and the tank takes a while to run down, so it is quiet most of the time. It is super easy to get _very_ low constant pressure with the integrated regulator. I regularly paint small scale AFVs at 5-10 psi.
