As the title this maybe a real stupid question, i am new to models and i just purchased a F-14 tomcat and in the instructions it has symbols and indications of where to paint but if there is no indicator do i just paint it the main body color? the first step is the cockpet and the instrument panel and seat are flat black but there are smal pieces that are attached which have no symbol to paint....
Thanks

lachlan; the best advice I can give you is when looking for painting details on specific areas of a specific vehicle or in this case aircraft run a search on google for "in this case" F14 cockpit detail. This should help you to get a clear understanding of what colours are needed where.

Hallo,

As aforementioned: give the real thing a try. Colour specifications given by manufacturers in the manuals are often far from beeing accurate. You can have a look at reference sites like for example Prime Portal and, of course, just google, like already said. this way you should get some ideas on how to paint the details. Good luck.

For many modelers half the job is doing research. If you are serious, down the road you will acquire many reference books. Some of them are by Osprey, and The Detail and Scale Series,Vanguard and the like. Its good because you not only learn the modeling aspect, but you learn a lot about your subject.
