Hi all,
After visiting Aberdeen and seeing one 'in the flesh' so to speak have been thinking of getting one of these. So my question is which is more recommended? In browsing reviews here and online, could not really get a feel if one was much better than the other.
Thanks for any comments.

John;
Hi! Ah, yes, the infamous "Heuschrecke"...
Which - Trumpy's or the D's - is the better kit... Good question!
All the "bigs" who reviewed the Dragon offering early - on were actually pretty positive about the part you got. All of course noted that Dragon had left out various bits (no tow-lunette for the turret-on-wheels, so you cannot have the hull towing its turret, no winches and pully stuff for the lift, etc.), and some also noted that the D provided MagicTracks (good, as they are pre-clipped and mostly clean) - with open horns (bad, as the real thing appears to have had the solid-horn tracks). hmmmm. The D kit does provide some interior stuff in the hull below that turret, and you get a bunch of extra personal gear.
Seems that fewer folks reviewed the Trump kit - T's kit hull may be a little too short - 4 or 5mm? Trumpy does provide at least part of the lifting gear - including some chains! (bravo!). I don't know for sure, but I think T also skipped the towing - lunette... so you can model the turret being lifted but still not towed? The T does not apparently provide any hull interior at all - so nothing to start from but blank space if you model it turret-lifted or off. The T provides the solid-horn tracks as links-on-sprues. He also provides vinyl tracks, but these are too short as they are for a standard IV hull and not the longer Heuschrecke hull... So, you can have the correct solid links - if you clip and clean them.
Both kits need added stuff for the complete lift set-up, and both can stand some details being added.
I have the Dragon kit - haven't opened it yet. May never do so. I only learned about the lift-gear detail issue after getting it. There are PE kits and AM to fully-address this lack, but at added cost and effort. Still, I wanted to model Mr. Heu with the racks up and the turret lifted, so one could see down into the hull - so I will need to get the AM gear...
My opine is that the D kit may be a little better - molding and detail-wise and has some interior - but will need new tracks for accuracy and the lifting gear. But I can overlook the open horns in favor of having MagicTracks ready to assemble, and adding the AM lift gear will make this POP!
Maybe because of these various misses and the oddity of the subject, both D and T's kits appear to go on sale frequently and come in at pretty low prices... so there is the "buffer" that could allow one to buy extra bits and still come out OK.
Hope this helps!
Bob

You can find some very good in-box reviews of both kits in this site, just search "heuschrecke" and you'll be able to find them. At least they'll give you an initial idea of what you may get with each kit

I also reviewed the Voyager update set for the Dragon kit.
