I have been looking at photos, and I don't see an MCD unit on the USMC A'stan M1A1 Abrams. Anyone find it to be different?

Hi Bill
I would make an educated guess and say that anti-tank missiles are not the #1 threat in Afghanistan, so the MCD is not really needed there...

nope, not installed, neither is the turret roof armor included in the psm set (it's just in the set so one can build any type of USMC M1 ever deployed, not only the a-stan specific version)
some of the tanks in Iraq had the turret roof armor on or some other variatons like MCD and FO/AC antennas..
anyways, with a little effort the set can be used to build two USMC abrams from it
Cheers, Max

That would mean I'd need another kit, LOL! Just turned one down recently (too much in the stash).
Thanks, Frenchy, I guessed as much, but sometimes the military comes over-prepared to any parties.

Howdy Bill, there is no such thing as over-prepared when your backside is on the line. The MCD has not been installed on USMC Abrams for quite some time now and was not fitted to the tanks that were deployed to Afghanistan in November, 2010. The MCD was not used on tanks home stationed in Iraq upon the USMCs return to theater in 2004. If you do see an Abrams in Iraq with an MCD mounted post 2003 the tank belongs to the Tank Platoon of a BLT(Battalion Landing Team)of a visiting MEU. The MCD was removed from service around the 2006 time frame. It has been put back in the tool box for use in the future if needed.
