Hey everybody,
I just Got back from my hiatus from the hobby and I'm currently building the AFV club MittlererFunkPanzerwagen (a fit issuse nnightmare!), and have a question in relation to the paint scheme. The instructions state that the overall colour of the Halftrack is olive green including the roadwheels. is this correct? Was olivegreen ever used as an standard colour? I thought all vehicles where Dunklegelb and later field painted camo, The instructions imply an opposite colour scheme. Also i was wondering if anyone could please input some imformation on the 12th SS 'HJ' artillerie Battlions, I'm making a small dio for my friends birthday and hes a big SDKFZ 251 fan, yet he has no scale depictions! any help I can get would be great.
Thankyou in advance
Mat

The paint instructions must be for a specific vehicle as you are correct about the basic yellow color. Later in the war vehicles were painted in a standardcammo pattern at the factory.
If I understand your question correctly about the 12SS Art Regt there were few,if any 251s in that unit. Only one Abt was armoured and had Wespes and Hummels. The FOs had a few PzIIIs as forward observers vehicles. The other two Abt. were all towed by an assortment of halftracks. Anything from Maultiers up to 7Ton vehicles were used. HTH

Hi Mat,
I think you're misreading the instructions somehow.
All the 4 paint schemes show a Dunkelgelb base and wheels.
2 examples from the instructions:
I have seen photos of option A, the 12th SS 251/D.
Just not sure where I've put them
Grant.

Thanks guys,
The box art on the side shows the overall colour as olive green with dark yellow squigles (simmilar to luftwaffe camo.) and my inability to decipher the shades of grey in the colourcoding maybe an issue lol. I thought this variant was used as artillery obsevation vehicle (ie: the Scissor scopes and spotlight.) or is this variant used as a Aufklar? all I can find is that its a command/radio halftrack (nah-Daaah )

Mathew,
You are correct, this is not a radio vehicle, the HJ half track shown in the scheme is an Sdkfz251/15 mittlere Lichtauswertepanzerwagen (artillery-flash-spotter vehicle). This is taken froma very famous series of photos taken when von Rundstedt inspected HJ in 1943 during training in France. Other pictures from the series show Fritz Witt, Rundstedt & Panzermeyer in a different vehicle. The Sdkfz251/15 was a special purpose artillery vehicle phased out during 1943, so HJ were lucky to get one!
