I am going to purchase some Mig washes for my tanks and I wanted to know if anyone knew any good videos or sites that could explain how to use them. Also, can Enamel based washes be used for acrylic paints?

Hi Vincent.

For the first question,there are multiple answers.

Here is a good youtube video by scalemodelmedic that explains what a wash is;

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxwE4M5KLn0

If you can invest 15$,get this DVD by AK interactive that explains the whole wash technique:

Or simply enter the word wash in the search field on this site.

If you are using mig wash (which is enamel) you need to put on a acrylic clearcoat.

Kind regards

Vincent, also read through "Finishing and Weathering Sequence" pinned at the top of this forum. It will answer all of your questions and put you on the right track to success.

Hi Sven, I have a Model Master Acryl gloss/clear acrylic. Is this a clear coat? Also, When I apply the clear coat on the model when I am done painting, How many coats should I do, and do I apply the clear coat to the tracks too?

Future gloss is nothing more than Future floor wax. Available in most markets in the US. It can be hand brushed or airbrushed on a kit and provides a good sealing coat over the paint. It gives a good surface for decals, will seal decals, and allow a wash to flow evenly. It cleans up with water, and after it is dried can be cleaned up/removed with ammonia based window cleaner such as Windex brand. It comes in a big bottle and is relatively inexpensive.

Does the clear coat and wash go on the tracks too?

it can. what it accomplishes is to allow better flow for the wash. the point of the wash is to get into the recesses. the clear coat will make the capillary action flow the paint to the edges and corners rather than it just sit there over the entire spot you just applied it to.
