I have been working on this for awhile, and getting closer to complete. In paint stage (plus assembly of metal track links) right now. I have really enjoyed the kit, although had some struggles with the side skirts lining up. Probably all me there. On the Friuls, I have about 1/2 of one track complete now. And still going to add green to the paint camo too.

I am also going to put a link to the Photobucket folder that I am putting more photos in. Here is the box-art and one picture as she stands now...

John, thanks for posting your pics. I just got this kit from Sprue Bros. the other day and can't wait to dive into it. I would love to get a set of the tracks you are using, but a little out of the budget right now. Nice work on the paint job. Please post some pics when you finish. Don M.

Good work mate, keep us up to date as you go. Like the shape of the camo. I too have just ordered this one. Between the 3 of us we almost have a campain started.

Not sure about which cammo to go. There's the two options in the box art but I really like the Berlin cold war city camo. Never tried it before but I recon it would be some what fitting for a 1946 paper panzer

Don and Dazza,

Thanks for the comments. Much appreciated. I am sure you will both like the kit. It has been pretty fun so far, outside the tracks! UGH. So frustrating, you paint, they flake, etc.

So anyhow, I got the 3rd paint color on and pretty much have the camo pattern completed (but do need some touch ups). My question is this, I tried the masking technique to get the red primer to 'show-thru' wear and tear.

What I was trying to simulate was this ambush hunter had squeezed himself into a spot and scraped up the paint on both sides as he shimmied in and also scraped the paint on the bottom of the main gun.

Not sure you can see in the pics all that, but just curious how the effect came off.

There are a few more on the photobucket link if you are interested.
E-100

Thanks,

John

Well, that was a lot of work, but she is sitting on her tracks!

Had to cut off an extra link (I didn't know exactly how many to make so eyed it and was one off. Well I used Blacken-it for the first time (Friul tracks too) and I think they look pretty cool. She is still sitting on her roof in these pics because I just glued the idler on...

The second pic also shows the 'scrape' on the gun barrel that I referred to in my last post.

Hi John, to me the scrapes should run more horizontally than diagonally (the diagonal seems too much like splash). There would probably be more wear and scrapes on the front corners, too.

Also, the scratched areas would vary more in thickness and intensity from a lot of, "oh dear, I scratched the paint", up to a few, "holy %&@%, what happened here!".

I want to say something about the color choice for the scratches, too. The red seems a bit too red, if it's supposed to be primer showing through scratched paint. Also, it's not improbable that even the primer is scrapped off leaving bare metal.

Just my $.02, otherwise, nice job so far.

Bob,

Thanks for the comments. Much appreciated. So, I used a red from Pactra (sp?) on that called Red Oxide. Thought it might be a fair match for German primer, guess not. Anyhow, I wsa wondering about the scratches myself. Trying some things I had not done before. Wasn't sure how it came off.

Back to the paint barn anyhow. Had some touch-ups to do, so will look into those too.

Thanks again,

John

Here she is after the repaint/touchups and a first go at the wash...

Took these pics last night. Not sure the wash was completely dry yet...

Thanks again for your comments...

Hi John, The paint looks good. Nice pattern. Just one little "picky" suggestion for the future to think about. If your wheels aren't glued in place, there's no problem, all you need to do is rotate them a bit to show the tank has actually moved since it was painted. If they're already glued in place, then paint the wheel patterns at different angles to effect the same thing. It would be a miracle, if the tank has been operational, for the wheels to still be in alignment with the hull. Just a thought.

I was just going to add the option of following the box art with base color wheels.

Bob, Jeff and Anthony,

Really appreciate the comments. The wheels are not glued yet (at least the road wheels), so I can rotate a bit. I was actually thinking about that already! Thanks for confirming my thought.

This really has been a fun project and looking forward to finishing it up.

One last question, if I add the dot oil filter over what I have so far, how long does that have to dry before I add a flat coat???

Asking because I am hitting the road (vac and drive to FL for Nats too!) and would like to enter something (and no delusions of placing, but supporting the contest).

Thanks again!

Got some weathering done. Want to do more, black pigments for barrel muzzle and exhausts. Then some on tracks, maybe some mud and grass debris? Not sure...

Here is how she looks now... ( I dont think the pictures came out great. Taking them at night...)

Definitely like the wheels more now that you repositioned them.
