Hello all,
I plan to built a dio that would take place in Vietnam. I already have built a M113. I would also like to put a Jeep Willys MB (Tamiya no 219). I wonder if this Jeep's version (built in WWII) was still used in Nam? And if so, do I have to convert the kit?
Thanks in advance

Hi Frank

If you really want to put a "jeep" in your dio, I believe a M38A1 would be a better choice :

Another option would be a CJ3B-J4C. Jim Lewis has built an impressive model of this one, but the Okuno kit he used is OOP...

The best jeep for Vietnam is the Academy M151A1. The Willys MB, CJ3B, and M38A1 were all out of service by Vietnam. There were a few M38A1s and CJ3Bs still around, mostly used by the ARVN (S. Vietnamese), but not many still in US hands.

just to add to your post. The Navy and Airforce were using M38's in early 1968 in the Chu Lai area. Seems like I saw some of them in Da Nang as well. Most were painted grey. M151a1's were very common along the coastline, but a rare sight in the field.

In May 1969, newly arrived in Nam , I was at the Cam Ranh Bay Army HQ (to be shown "the only flush toilets" on the base), when some guys in a US Army M38A1 pulled into the parking lot. I was surprized because I had thought they were no longer in service.
