Hi all,
I am trying to finish a kit before the Nats and only have till the 2nd (then we are hitting the road on Vac towards FL). So I have the kit painted (repaint finished last night), but not glossed yet. Was thinking of using either AK Interactives enamels or oil dot technique for weathering. Do I have to gloss it first before I use these? Also, should decals be put on before? If so, then I must gloss at least the areas where the decals go...
Would really appreciate ideas, especially since the thing I have always heard was letting the Future dry for 24 hrs before putting anything over it... So that would mean 2 days at least right there with the gloss, decal, gloss again after decals dry. Maybe 3 days...
Thanks!
John

I have used AK over acrylics with no issues, I use Vallejo paint. And usually I apply Future to the entire model for decals as I find it easier to some washes.
Hope that helps.

Kevin,
Thanks. So do you do the interactives before or after the future?
I wasn't sure what order you were describing. Thanks again.

It all depends on the effect I am trying to get. I do some rust, color modulations(dots) and chipping before Future, I then do decals and pin washes. I then apply Flat, and finish up with some more chipping, rust, streaking, and pigments, before a final Flat clear again.

Kevin,
Great info. So by the dots, you do mean the oils with thinner, right?
Thanks again for the answers. Very helpful.

For me, I very seldom have issues doing gloss of future, decals, gloss, weathering with oils/ AK stuff. If you are going to use pigments later, you must after pigments over a Matte surface
