Hi. Seen a lot of articles lately of folks using the Mig pigments for their models. Are they really that good? Or can you basically get the same colors/textures by just using the different colors of pastel chalks a person can pick up at the craft stores, as long as they aren't the oil pastel types?
Just cuious here.
Thanks and take care, sgirty

Hi, i use pigments from a model train shop (those little moving trains you know). It works just fine but i have never tried the MIG ones so i can't tell which is better.

I've got most of the MIG pigments in my collection now, I haven't really used them myself besides of some quick tests..
But a friend of mine, quite a reference when it comes to building 1/35th vehicles, did a demo some weeks ago and I found it to be quite astonishing.
The positive thing about these pigments is that they are very fine and you don't have have to "grind" them first like pastel chalk....

But for the price you pay for MIG pigments......I will take the 5 mins I need to crush the pastels into powder....and the money saved will buy me more kits!!!
I picked up a pack of Earth colors from my local Home Improvement store for like $10....came with 12 sticks of pastel....from black through the browns, to the beiges, to the reddish brown and rust colors.....thats $10 Can.....which is like $7.50 US....how many Mig pigments can you buy for $7.50???

I use the MIG pigments exclusively now, they really are worth the money spent. The pigment is very finely ground indeed which makes it ideal to use for washes, simulating dust etc. It also saves on one of my pet hates, grinding pastels

As someone who would also like to know how to work with the Mig Pigments, hopefully help is at hand... I have just requested an article on their use which I will submit for approval if I get it, so for the moment...Jim
