It's armor added to a T-62 which includes front armor, "horseshoe" armor on the turret, anti-mine belly armor and side skirts to protect the lower hull

Animal, the Soviet version of "Blazzer" armor. That add-on reactive stuff.

BDD is known as "brow" armor, "bra" armor, and "horseshoe" armor. It is a add on package, that can include the turret armor, belly armor, front glacis armor, and even side skirts. BDD generally refers only to the armor that goes on the front of the turret. It is made of a cast shell willed with angled aluminum or titanium plates to help defeat both HEAT and kinetic warheads. This same form of "special" armor was incorperated into the T-72M2 series turret as a internal item.

Here is a link to the T-62, which is the most common user of the armor. Very bottom of the page is a pic of the T-62M with the armor.

BTW...I am nearly finished with my own version of this T-62...will post pics when I am done.

Here is my build of the T-62M1-2 M1975/83 with BDD, glacis and belly armor (and AAMG) but NO new sideskirts. Confused yet?

And my build of the DML T-72M2 OOB with tissue paper added for the mantlet cover, and plumbing on the rear fuel cells.

Is there a t_62 kit with the BDD armor or is this an aftermarket kit? As I haven't gotten into modern Soviet armor, I'm not familiar with what's out there.

Blaster,

For your info:

the only T-62 out in plastic 1/35 is the old Tamiya kit. It has several glaring problems for OOB, even in my opinion. The turret is the biggest problem, the roadwheels are so so, and the rear deck can be fudged without too much problem.

The BDD conversion I used was from SP Designs. There are other conversions from Aires, and a few others I am not sure of. Personally, I think the SP Designs kit is the best from a accuracy/price/quality standpoint.

What I have left to do to my T-62 is wire up the fender fuel tanks and cast up some nice resin fuel tanks for hte rear brackets...then, more painting.

Jacques is right ..I have seen the web-sight and the prices are low and the turrets are accuracte & the resin looks easy to cut and work with
