Looking for some ideas from you all!

I’m building a diorama for the Twilight 2000 Campaign. It contains a building front that extends back for a few inches. The building is NOT destroyed. It has an interior...no problem except that how do I model the back of the building where it ends?? Do I cap it off?? Do I just leave it open like a giant saw cut it off??

I’ve been wrestling with this one for a bit now and have NO IDEA that really seems to answer it.

Below is a schematic to help explain this.

Input welcomed! Thanks for the ideas!

Jim
This is going to depend on where the action is in the dio. Is it in the building, or on the street? Are there figures in the building watching the street? Depending on the leval of detail you're putting in the building you could go either way. Personally I would detail the building and leave it open.

HI Jim In my opinion you can best laser it off.
it gives the impression that their is more, and that your dio is a scene of it.

but thats just my 3 cents :-)

Since the buiding is 'in tact' laser it off and paint the edges black or dark blue - something that will indicate that it is totally separate from 'the action'. In the past people used to do red edges, my personal opinion is that its distracting.
Just do a cut out and leave it open

heres a snippet of one I did - you can see the floor is in tact and the edges are 'cut' off and painted black.

Depends. You can build in such way that the dio looks real from all sides, or you can close up the building as described above. The nicest dio's look good from all sides...

I agree a diorama should be viewed from all sides. When ever I have a partial building in a dio or vin I always treat it as part of the diorama, and part of the story. Don't leave it hanging, this gives you an opportunity to give your diorama life. I think you are headed in the right direction when you say "cut it off with a big saw". I try to leave my edges natural, like you are looking through a cross section as if everything is still in its place. The substructure, like the cross beams in the flooring, I try to build a building so that it is architecturally correct, and yes I have taken a fine bladed saw and cut it to fit. If you choose to do it that way just take great care in its building so the material you are cutting can take the vibration of the saw. I have some photos that should be posted soon and that is exactly what I did with the flooring. Good luck!
