Hello Gents, its been too long since my last post. Life has a strange way of getting in the way of the fun things - like building small plastic tanks...
Its time for a new blog and a new build. This time, I am going for Revell`s Marder 1A3 in 1/72 scale, which will be upgraded to 1A5-status. I am planning to do an ISAF IFV.
So far, I have opened the rear airguard hatch and built a new lid from scratch. I also started to build the new sideskirts and have gotten some work done on the turret.
Not much to see yet, but I will keep you posted.
However, the rear hatch will be manned by a little fellow in Flecktarn, whom I have already painted up. Its a white-metal figure from Underfire miniatures. I decided, that their set depicting armed (British) police could also be used for German Panzergrenadiers - and I like the result. Its not 100% correct (the G36 is the short version with the wrong aiming-device, the vest is not correct and German soldiers in the Stan are normally not allowed to roll out in T-shirts...), but close enough for me.
Hope you like it,
Cheers!

Hi there,
did not get too much done this weekend but decided to temporarily fit together some sub-assemblies to see how the thing goes together...
I like the look of the little guy keeping a watchful eye on the rear of the vehicle...
stay tuned for updates...

Hey Mattie,
the guy hasn't visited the forum since Dec 2012 ..... if he posts on another site/forum it might be there somewhere, a googlefu search might find it otherwise this is a necro thread unfortunately.

Hey,
just saw this. Please, pick away! (I have to admit, the little Marder has not seen much progress since the last post - I have been looking at it from time to time, but other projects took over.
But if I can help you in any way, please ask. I am still lurking around here...

G.M., Did you also do the 'belly' armor? And I was going to ask what colors were you going to use to paint it...

I did not add the added mine protection, as you canīt see it anyway (same goes for the new tracks and changes of the running gear in the a5-versions...).
As for the paint - I was planning on going ISAF and would have used Vallejo paints (had not selected the proper ones yet), but am now thinking of doing a NATO-scheme. (I had the opportunity to see some Marders in action on a training ground some time ago and took some photos...)
If you need any reference pics, may I suggest this site, as they have pics of the A5, the A5A1 and the A5A1 with the latestbells & whistles:

As for the running gear. It's "under-armor" so it's all good! I'm going to put this kit "aside" as what my wife calls "Modeling Attention Defisit Disorder" just kicked in! Aoshima's J.G.S.D.F. Manuver Combat Vehicle arrived!!!

"I'm going to put this kit "aside"" - funny, since you revived this thread, I find myself constantly looking over to the shelf of doom while listening to a distant, but growing, voice urging me to continue building the Marder...
This build might see some progress after all!

Nothing quite like a new kit showing up to make you drop one build for another! But I know what you mean about re-newed intrest in a started kit. Quite often, I'll see a post about a kit I've already started and "put-up". The post gets me going back at it!
