I never had a lot of sucess with washes,i use tamiya for base paints and humbrol+oils for wash. my problems wasn't paint coming off but more the fact that the wash didnt flow very good and often dries unevenly, it also seems that it's difficult to make the wash local, and when i washed the entire model, it doesn't look very nice.
I'm consudering spraying the model with a coat of future before the wash, will it help?,wont it hide some small details?
i'm allways having problem deciding what should be the color of the wash (I do mainly IDF vheicles) black is no good, burnt sienna and umber are somtime to red and since in Israel vehicles almost don't rust. i was thinking about trying medium gray, and somtimes even bright colors like sand or light earth to simulate dust build.
Suggestions?

Hi Eran

The coat of Future sounds a good idea, because washes always seem to flow better over a gloss finish.

As regards colours, I'd have thought a dark earth colour would bring out detail on an Israeli vehicle.

Why not try using pastels to simulate dust?

Hope this helps

I'm with Merlin, I always do my (selective) washes over a coat of future and the result is quite good. On a gloss surface I find it easier to remove the excess too...
