Hi,
I would like to present a new diorama. It portrays the final scenes of the film The Bridge (Die Brücke) - a 1959 German film directed by Bernhard Wicki and is still regarded as one of the most significant German anti-war films. A few years ago a remake was made but did not come close to the original. The film is in black and white - in my opinion it only works well in black and white, which is why my diorama is also in black and white.
The diorama is 66 x 48cm in size and built to a scale of 1:48. The figures are reconstructed - I have tried to fit the arrangement of the figures, the motorbike and equipment as best possible to the film. You can see some of the scenes from the film on Youtube. I did find it difficult doing it in black and white - there isn't much on the internet about it.
If you like, I can post pictures of the whole process. I am looking forward to your comments!
Greetings, Swen

This is really nice work!!!! I especially like the water effects. The whole scene looks so large for the few number of figures but that is probably part of the movie effect. I actually have this movie somewhere (not sure if its the right version though). I would have liked to see it in color though; then just use digital effects for the black and white in a couple of photos. Congrats on a real nice dio !!

Great looking Dio Swen! Really like the B&W you did. I agree that it does the movie more justice than color. I've heard B&W is very hard to do but you managed great!
It's been a long time since I've seen the movie so unfortunately I can't really remember this scene.
Cheers!

Great job. Very interesting to make everything in black and white. Works very well.

I like that. I think having seen the movie ( the original, I didn't really care for the remake ) makes this easier to understand but even without the movie I like the B&W effect, very unusual and very visually effective.

Very impressive. How did you do the tree? is it a commercial product?
Poor sigi, because he was the smallest

Theres a lot to like in this dio. The bridge is an apt name as it is the center piece, and although it is so big, it really dramatises the scene. The black and white painting is another impressive feat on something so large. The only thing that lets it down (getting picky) is the pose of the guy pulling the dead/injured soldier. His right shoulder is very high, and does not show the weight of dragging a limp body ... especailly the length of such a bridge.

Excellent work. Sensational water effects. Super details (example: MP40 in the water). Good idea....black and white.
I presume it's very difficult to realize this in a dio.
Unfortunately the photos are in conflict with this wonderful diorama....The detail photos are very good, but in the total view you should take a neutral background in white. The photos would be much better and atmospheric.
Don't be angry....That's the only criticism I have.
Best regards
Frank

Ugh, amazing? I was wondering if I'd ever see anyone alter color effects over an small scene, let alone your vast bridge.
Most certainly looking forward to seeing more from you SwenRi!

Hi
Thanks for the nice comments.
@ Marlowe, the tree consists of a wire frame and Milliput. The structure of the crust was made with a scalpel.
@ Lappes-yes, you're right. The background could be better;-)

A winning composition Swen!
I have this film on DVD and recently had my 18yr-old watch it. A different perspective for someone young growing up with today's current style/formula of action films. Also for an American, as the film portrays them as the hostile intruding horde approaching their bridge.
Very stylized, accurate, and the water for the river looks real. Sometimes less is more!;)
