Hi!
Although I mainly build aircraft, I now want to try my hands on something new... a tank
I found this pic, and think I would like to do one of these... thing is, I really like the ambush camouflage and was wondering if these were in service long enough to get that sprayjob?
oh, any recomandations for a good kit? do Tamiya have one?
Cheers!

I have seen pictures of a few very late panzerIV J's with an Ambush scheme but it seems to be quite rare...the only ones I have seen were on the late vertical exhaust system and wire mesh shutzen...I.'m sure someone will find others ..

With the longevity of the Panzer IV I am sure that more than one had the ambush scheme. Pick a late H or a J version. I am familiar with both the Tamiya and Academy kits and would recommend either of these two to you

No there were no tigers with an ambush paint scheme as the production had stopped before this paint scheme started...Sturmtigers yes...

I never saw a pic of a Panzer IV with ambush scheme. I search in Panzer Colours (Squadron Publications) and found nothing.
For me the best kits of this tank are from Dragon, they have a lot of versions.
Tiger tanks didīt use ambush scheme. For this one I like the Tamiya kit

Sorry to disagree, but there are three photos of Panzer IV's with ambush camouflage. And your statements that no Tigers used ambush is also not correct. No Tiger I is known to have used ambush but Tiger II's are well documented in the ambush scheme.

Hi PaulHanson:
Sidney asked about Tiger I, so Iīm talking as I said about the Tiger I, and as you also said no Tigers I used ambush scheme for camo.
About the Panzer IV in this paint patern is realy interesting that there are pics of them. Please can you share the information of where we can found them, or better if you can scan them and share the pics with us. The last would be of great help

I am on board with Paul on the Pz IV thing, I think I have seen 12 SS pz IVs in ambush pattern, I need to check my references.

If I didn't make it clear I was talking about tiger I's not kingtigers..everyone knows about the KTs. As for the Panzer IV I have a picture of a late J with mesh shutzen and even wire added over the top between the shutzen and the hull side ...The turret numbers finish with 13 but the side door of the turret shutzen is covering the first number ...this seems to belong to the 1SS in the Ardennes ...the worst thing is that they have this tank in the color plates and don't show the ambush scheme ..but if you look at the picture on page 27 of Osprey's Elite series #11 Ardennes 1944 Peiper&Skorezeny..You'll see there are small yellow dots (not many but they are there) Sorry no scanner here ,but maybe some one else can do it for you ..

Sorry, guys, I didn't catch the TI thing. I can't sign on from home for some reason so I read stuff at home and try post early from work, so I sometimes may miss something in between.
Anyway, photos of ambush Pzkpfw IV's:
-hard edged dots (2. Pz.Div, back plate "Battle of the Bulge", Pallud)
- sprayed ambush pattern (II/SS Pz.Rgt 1, no "715" "Battle of the Bulge", Pallud)
- large dot pattern, sprayed ( 5. SS Pz.Div "Verweht sind die spuren" NE)
Dave, if you do find a HJ in ambush post the reference so I can add it to the list.
Rick, I don't have the Ardennes Osprey but I'll see if I can borrow one to see if it matches the Pallud BoB "715" photo. Could be "713".
