IF you're proficient in html you can use the free space most probably allowed by your ISP. If you like me a total illiterate when it comes to html get yourself a page on somthing like Homestead that comes with its own click and paste software and is easy to use. I pay around $150 for two years contract ,about $6.00 a month for around 100meg and a gigbandwidth. if all you want to do is post your model pics get something like Webshots. they have a free section which allows around ten albums of 24 pics or you can pay around $40 a year and get 50 albums of 60 pics each. you can check out both by going to my site. the site is done with their proprietary software . and my webshots page is the paid for type.

My site is linked below..I suggest getting a free site, like Angelfire.com or geocities.com....Its a good start and they have tutorials if you dont know HTML coding..Angelfire provides 20meg of space..and the only drawback is Pop ups...

Without knowing any html and where to post images it will be a tough one.
If you follow the recommendations of the replies you have I think you'll be off to a good start.

You'll have to ask yourself how much time you want to put into it and how much your willing to spend in time and dollars. It takes both to get your name out and become succesful

You might also consider asking the Armorama staff (specifically Jim) in the "Site Talk" forum if you can build a genre specific sub site here, and offer your assistance and desires to the crew here.

I'd hate to start off fresh and re-invent the wheel of Armorama, since this site is so well respected and well established in the modeling community.
Theres room for more sites, but differentiating yourself from these folks will be a serious commitment of your resources.
You might keep more time to build your kits if you partnered your interest with these guys verses went "competitive" with them.
(I use the word competitive loosely and grudgingly since theyre so cool, just want you to get the jist of what this would entail for you)
I run a little email filtering service/site and I hardly update it because it takes more time than i want to give from my personal life.

But I wish you success with whatever you choose...

be careful about dealing with angelfire.I built a site there once and put a lot of work into it.One day they took it down, and told me I violated there terms of service.I sent them an email asking what the violation was,and they have never responded.

You are right about that. I think I got lucky in terms of timing when I started Armorama. It is rather funny though because after posting a similar message to Tim on several modeling sites I got a lot of "There are already a lot of good general AFV sites out there, so try to make something that is subject specific... like a site on a particular tank".

I bet you are all glad I didn't listen to that advice.

Tim - My advice is...if you are thinking about starting up a site like this one, be prepared for a lot of hours of work. And of course the potential expense. This site gobbled up about 60+ gigabytes of bandwidth for October. And usage like that isn't cheap.

Have a plan for growth!

Cheers,
Jim

Scott,
Probably some BS rule they have about posting images with a swastika or other PC rule.

When will people learn you can't protect people from NOT learning about history.

Not that I would put up an image of a swastika on the homepage, but then again if a BF109 had one on it's tail I probably wouldn't even think about it.

Careful there Tim. Look what happened to me. #:-)

Creating and maintaining a personal web site is a lot of 'work', and does involve an expense., but I like to look at it as 'turning the (my) hobby up a notch'. It is fun and it is certainly rewarding!

As long as I can afford it (which isn't all that bad for my personal site), I'll be "there". At the bottom of my links page, there is some info on what I used to create my site, and who is hosting it that might be of some help for starters.

If you have a 'story' to tell or have something that you think is of interest to others, Go for it! The key here is being interesting enough to keep folks coming back for more.

Best wishes with yours Tim and have a tremendous amount of fun with it!
