Hi all,
Does anyone know if the British 6 pdr anti-tank gun was modified in any way for use with the US Airborne forces in WW2 ? And is the Tamiya model the only one out there? Thanks in advance for any help guys !!

Yes it was modeified. Resicast offer a resin version I think. And there was another one from OrangeHobby -1/35 16 US MI 57mm Anti Tank Gun not sure if they do an airborne version

Hi Pat,
Thanks for the fast reply. I'm planning an airborne diorama with some US paras of the 8oth Airborne anti-aircraft Battalion (82nd Airborne Division) and a 6 pndr gun in Normandy; I know they were brought into Normandy by glider...I'll have to check out those two models and see what they look like....
So building the Tamiya kit out of the box wouldn't be accurate right ?

The US forces were apparently caught short without their own glider AT guns, but the British already had modified their 6 lb'ers by removing the front shield and narrowing the axle. The US used the same modified gun but changed the towing lunette to be compatible with their own vehicles.

Thanks Biggles2....
I was just reading Steven Zalogas Osprey Book on US Airborne Divisions in the ETO; a very detailed book on their organization and equipment tables. It was interesting to read about the problems the Airborne units had in transporting their supporting artillery and anti-tank guns.....apparently the US 57mm M1 was too heavy for gliders...and the British Gun fit the bill. Intersting picture in there with a group of glidermen and/or paras (it's hard to tell if both are in the picture), manning a 6pdr with a Stug IV of the 17th SS PanzerGrenadier Division behind it knocked out-the idea for my diorama!
