Hans,
That show looks like it would be a lot of fun.
So a 'dumb' question. I have seen pics of the Leopards with that spaced armor 'open' on those hinges (like the model is on the link). Is that only for maintenance access to do that?
Thanks again,
John

Hi John,
yes your right. The spaced armor can be opened for maintenance purposes. In case of an engine change, the turret would be rotated 90° and the segments opened. Also the segments have bags inside for stowing various equipment.
And yes the show is big fun, I participated three times. It`s held inside a Bundeswehr Kaserne, so that you have access to the units vehicles. It`s also for charity, the donations go to the German Childrens Cancer Association.

The REVELL kit does not convince me from what I see.
Rather pay a few € or $ more and stick to the Tamiya one.
Should have invested their time and money into a proper Leo 2A4.
Cheers

Interesting way they tackled the turret stowage baskets. It will make an OOB build eaier but it looks like replacing it with PE will require scratch building a frame. Maybe they give you both options?

Hi Tom,
sorry I can`t tell anything about that ship model, But I guess it must be 1/72 scale or larger. Here in Germany we don`t have a system of competition. Most shows are just for meeting other modellers and their works. In case of the Holzminden show the main purpose of the show is to raise funds for the Childrens Cancer Foundation. In the previous years funds were as high as 30000 Euros per show.

I can think of only two major reservations. One is that for some reason Revell avoided three-part moulds. This means the lower hull comes in three bits while the turret has separate side panels (and not enough internal bracing, for my money). The other is that the gun has odd proportions. There's too much space between the mantlet and the bore evacuator, the evacuator is too short, and the barrel extension is too. Apart from that there's not much to choose between them and Revell's kit is a bit better in some respects, such as engine deck detail.

Hey Jose
Had a look in the box from a fellow modeler who bought it.
The rear turret bins are crap, not just of the 3-pieces layout but as they are solid plastic they do not look anything close to realistic (AM set $$$)
The swing-arms all had very prominent sink-marks, the anti-skid has hardly any texture especially the pads. Overall not the "in depth" details offered with the Tamiya kit.
The side-skirts are nice but the heavy front ones lack the anti-skid pads.
For me to build a good Leo 2A5/6 I'll always choose the Tamiya over the Revell kit, at about 35,oo € you can get the Tamiya one at Ebay.
Too save 5 € isn't worth it in my opinion .... their new 2A4 is a different story with an upgrade set from PSM and some extras I think that might be the best option for the time being.
Here are two of my Leo's I am still working on the 2nd one with the open engine deck.
Cheers
