So, I'm looking at doing yet another of those end-of war German big cats without paint and want to deviate from the standard rotprimer and dark grey barrel. One thing that I've gleaned is that many of the smaller fittings had different primers (black mudguards and clasps, for instance) and even the possibility that some tanks didn't get primer over their initial Parkerization finishes? What i haven't found is a good write-up of the different components and what the primer on some of those miscellaneous small bits was as well as details of the large pieces when it comes to their finishing process. Can anyone shed some light for me?
Thanks in advance!
Matt

Hi Matt,
I'm no expert, but tthe one thing I could see them saving a little primer on in the last days of the crumbling Reich would be the armoured carcase itself. After all, 4+ inches of hardened steel won't rot through for at least a century or two...
Trouble is, by the time an un-primered tank made it out the gates it would be covered in a thin orangy rust bloom, so not much different from your rotprimer beasts!
And that's assuming it really got that desperate...

yup, that would be interesting. I'm also thinking taking some artistic license and having a tank on the assembly line prior to priming. Would be interesting to see all of the mixed tones and colors. . .
