Hello, I'm new here. Could someone help me identify this Panzer II Ausf. F, and possibly give me a translation of the text in the photo. Thank you. .

howdy

according to panzer colors part II the red triangle with the line through it is one of the variants of the divisional insignia of the 15th panzer division.

short history from the axis history factbook

"15. Panzer-Division was formed Nov 1940 from 33. Infanterie-Division. It was sent to Libya Feb 1941 and took part in the fighting in North Africa.
The signals battalion (Panzer-Divisions-Nachrichten-Abteilung 33) was lost enroute to North Africa and was replaced by Panzer-Divisions-Nachrichten-Abteilung 78.

It surrendered in Tunisia 13 May 1943 with the rest of the Axis forces in Africa."

hope this helps

According to the caption, this one belonged to the 21st Panzer Division in Libya (December 1941)... Looks like the caption's wrong

me again, here is some more information from the panzer colors part II book on the 15th.

15 Panzer Division was sent in April 1941 to Africa as part of the Deutsches Afrikakorps (DAK) The divisional sign was a triangle divided by a vertical bar usually painted in red, black or sometimes white. As part of the DAK all 15 pd Vehicles could carry the white palm tree insignia of the corps.

15 panzer division also usually painted only the company numbers on its tanks in Africa. Most common were red numbers, but black, sometimes outlined in white were also seen.

Thank you both for the info. I was pretty sure it was in the north African theater, but did not know for sure. Thank you very much.
