Mike,
Tamiya Smoke is for tinting. You can use it to tint canopies and windshilds. Its also good for staining over bright metal finishes, such as burnt marks around motorcycle mufflers. Its in the smae line as Tamiya's other clear paints. Hope this explains a little bit. :-)

I drybrushed over Testors enamel Flat Black, and liked it.
Its also frequently dilueted and used a wash to make soot and exhaust stains...

I just used it to represent the lenses in a 1/35th set of goggles. It looks pretty good. I painted the base color of the helet the goggles are on on the "glass area" and then put the smoke over that.

Hi Mike
I find Tamiya's Smoke very useful for post-shading.
I thin it 1-10 (or weaker) with Isopropyl Alcohol, so it's like like slightly dirty water. When it's this dilute, you can build up really subtle shading with an airbrush.
It's good sprayed along panel lines or to represent exhaust stains and, by masking off different panels, you can create variations in paintwork or n/m finishes.
Hope this helps
