Fine Molds Models has a few new releases upcoming, should be enough to build a solid Japanese Force.

I like the little tank and its colorful writing. Wonder where it served?

it served with the girls in the Manga comics.

The kit is subnamed girls and tanks from the japanese comic series. But it does not matter. You get a full Type 89 Kou tank. For my own I have some leftover decals from the Otsu one which was comming via three isues of armour magazine last year.

ROLFLMAO.

OK, I get it. Thanks for the heads up. I'm looking for a tank to show wrecked on Saipan.

Lol, girls und panzer. Not only a manga but it's animated adaptation is currently airing. I see lots of tie-ins with the anime industry for merchandise, but hey it's still a Type 89 kit.

Five years on and Fine Molds will finally release a non-Girls and Panzer version.

I'll paraphrase text from the reference page of Akira “Taki” Takizawa on the Japanese forum on Missing Lynx, combining the text with other sources for a CliffsNote version on what the Fine Molds Type 89 can be OOB. The Fine Molds Type 89 only represents the final 1938-39 production batch since it is based on the preserved Type 89 in Japan. Less than 40 were built. That in itself will limit the markings options to the 3rd Tank Regiment in Manchuria...the 1939 Nomonhan clash with the Red Army. If you want to do it in the markings of the 7th Tank Regiment on Luzon in January 1942, the kit will need to be modified...mostly to the engine deck and it's layout. There are decals for 3rd Tank Regiment tanks, most likely with earlier Type 89 produced kits.

Is my comment accurate? Piecing together tidbits of info about the Type 89 got me to this point of confidently writing the information. Feel free to add to, or take away!

Just so you know the later Platz reissues of the Girls und Panzer Type 89 have modified pieces to better represent a standard Type 89. Seems anime and manga fans are just as particular about the accuracy of their models because the Type 89 in the show was a standard production and not the one in the original Fine Molds kit.

Sounds like/could be...we'll eventually have 2 distinctly different Type 89's out there...both being of accurate stature depicting 2 periods/eras?? If so, that's a good thing!
