Hi,
My idea for RMG was to make the Zwartenweg 14( Where Roy Urquart was hiding). I will put a tank infront of the houses with crew en SSers on it, discussing where the British general's would be. I will give it the name: Where are they?!?!?. I will show later today a picture of the draw iI made last night. I have also one question: what was the tank that was infront of the house, is the scene from a Bridge to Far reliable???
Thanks for helping all and good luck with the campaign!!!

Laurie,
Books I read, talk about an SP in front of that house, but they don't specify the type.....

I don`t know this exactly as I haven`t seen the movie itself for a while (maybe I have to look again for the memory) but from what I remember the Tank in the movie is a: "PZkfW Hollywood Extravaganza 16" and therefor not really reliable. I don`t know exactly what kind of tank it is I even Highly doubt that it is a german tank (a rebuilt patton or something???)
A couple of sources I have seen online speak of a so called SP gun. This could state: "Self Propelled gun" or It could stand for "Schutzen Panzer" In both cases we are talking bout a Stug or another panzerjager. I have looked in some books and the most common Stugs I could find in the books are:
- Sd.Kfz. 142/1 SturmGeschutz III ausf. G late version
- Sd.Kfz. 142/2 Sturmhaubitze 42G late Version
Now I can`t say what kind of tank there was in front of the house at the zwarteweg 14 but I guess one of these would do the trick
Hope This was of some help

Since this RMG campaign is about making a nice diorama and not about doing history research on the details that differentiate the movie from reality... I propose that any scene from the movie can be considered a correct source of inspiration for this diorama campaign.

I`m not saying that everything you see in the movie is made up Crap. Everything you see is as like it happened in real but I am saying that for technical reference the movie is not correct.
For instance take a look at the tiger in Kellys Heroes. Or a complete German platoon equiped with nice american Halftracks and I can go on with that for a long time. (think of the funny vehicle that attacks the soldiers in Kellys heroes at that castle :-) :-) Small vehicle with a huge shield and Balkan cross)
What I`m saying is that the tank they use as de Stug in front of the house Urquheart is hinding in, is not a Stug nor a Sturmhaubitze, It`s not even a jagdpanzer.
That`s the only thing I just wanted to point out
Thanks

We're on the same wavelength here. I just wouldn't like people to worry about the value of the movie to get ideas for this campaign. Of course I don't suggest you buy a Sherman where a Tiger should be in place.
But finding the exact type of stug is not so important as to try your hand on diorama techniques. That's what a diorama campaign is for.

friends,
Three things :
1. Robert's intentions where good.... he just tried to give some background info on what could have been in front of the house, based on reference material he read....no more no less (the Hollywood extravaganza was a Leopard IV actually...so it was German is a way )
2. I think it's fair enough to agree on picking scenes from A Bridge Too Far as a diorama concept. I read the real stories and I can say that the movie ABTF is close enough. Nothing wrong with that.
3. As far as the arguments on being Historical correct (the exact type of StuG), I want to state that there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.... people scratchbuild and pay multiple Euro's and Dollars on conversion- and PE sets for armor, just to get more close to the real thing..... it's equally important in diorama's..... for those who want to go this far !! If you don't wanna go this far and when you're in this campaign for the sole purpose of learning how to build a diorama, that's fine with me too, but I really admire those people who opened their reference books and learned about the battle where this is all about. This knowledge of historical backgrounds of a scene, gives so much more content to a diorama...it tells a story ....
So please all decide, on the "historical depth" you want to give to your diorama, for yourself. As said before, I'm happy with all the entries as they are. But again...I give a big applause to those who went to the library or the bookshop to give this Campaign a bit of extra body

NB : Who can answer the question, without opening their books ... : "In Market Garden ...who or what was Sunray......." deserves an extra medal for research !!
