I see the new 1/35th Dragon release of the T28 US Super Heavy Tank is now on sale … and while I wait to get one it seemed like a good time to post up my 20mm wargaming version (kit by Cromwell).

Hi Brent,

What a beauty, really nice model. I love this tank in real life, it is so ridiculous. How they thought it was a good idea beats me, but they just went ahead and did it.

Cromwell do some fine models and you have done this one full justice, excellent paint job with weathering to match. Thank you for sharing.

All the best,

Paul

DaGreatQueeg@ – Brent,

Wow, now that’s a bigg’in! Great job Brent. Looks like the German Maus would have had some competition. Fortunately neither of these two beasts went into production.

Brent, it sure is good to see some of your wargaming pieces gracing these forum postings again. Thanks for posting and sharing your work here. Love those down and up close photographs, I mean what a beast with appropriately sized shoes.

Awesome job in that scale. The finish and weathering are spot
on. I can't wait for the Dragon kit to be in my clutches. Yes
I have to admit, it does seem as a ridiculous idea to think
this would function on the battlefield, but MAN IS SHE ABEAST

Very nice build and base. You have captured the brute force of the vehicle to a T.
Even with all the flaws mentioned so far in the DML kit I'm still interested.

A side note the T-28 was designed to take on Siegfried Line pill boxes not fight panzers. It was supposed to trundle up and blast them apart, supported by an all arms team. It might have even worked.

Very nice work. I like the weathering and chipping .

PS: I wouldn't want to be there if an inner side, track broke up.....

Well it's not as big as you'd expect, it's long, but most of the extra length is gun overhang. The basic hull is the same length as a Dragon 72nd Panther but it's one track width wider and lower, so it's quite an efficent looking vehicle. I'll snap a comparison pic later today ....

And thanks for the comments guys, much appreciated !!!

Damn that is nice. I just wish Cromwell Models were more reliable and honest, so these kits could be obtained!

@DaGreatQueeg – Brent,

Thanks for posting up some of your Panzer ’46 project vehicles. I have a Panzer ‘46 army that I’ve wanted to put together and seeing your builds here is inspirational. I’ve gone and copied one of the photographs to my computer for printing and placing on a wall next to my workbench, this will help me to stay focused and motivated when I do start on this project.

Hoping and waiting to see you post more of your future Project ’46 vehicles, or for that matter, any of your work here.

An Accurate Armor T28 ended last month on ebay at $182.00 so even at what DRAGON wants for one is a deal!

I just cannot see THAT in the model and I know brand new it is quite a bit more than the auction.

I just cannot wait for this one as I have drooled over the actual vehicle at the PATTON museum for years. Now that it's been moved it is perfect timing to release the kit in plastic.

I've always wanted to get the AA version but haven't been able to afford it. I've tracked down a few online builds too and to say it's a difficult build would be an understatement. At least the Dragon assembly will be relatively straight forward and the parts will line up - mostly anyway The AA one required major work to cope with the resin shrinkage and warpage ....

The thing I find interesting looking at all the complaining about the new Dragon kit going around the forums is that so many people seem to want one, and this is from modellers who regularly complain about so many "what-if" and "experimental" model releases ....

I can't wait to get mine!

Kits are getting more and more expensive so if some are looking for a bargain, maybe going down to the next scale is the best option as modeling is not cheap.

If the T28 was a bit higher in price I probably would have passed as I have on other kits I've wanted.

I always look on ebay for better pricing on older kits so I'm sure this could happen here too.

This was really meant to be an assault gun much like some of the large caliber SU and ISU series later in the war then. In my younger days I had the mistaken impression that weapon caliber was the key in tank-destroying capability. It wasn't until later that I learned it was a balance between caliber (more mass) and velocity (faster) that enabled the ability to penetrate armor instead of bouncing off.

Its a very interesting science. The history of gun evolution during WWII along with the armor has turned out to be far more elaborate than I had expected. So often I have heard the argument of simply "This tank versus that tank", but its the combination of armor, firepower, and tactics that really brings it all together. To me it makes the Maus totally laughable when you consider the Blitzkrieg tactics and weapons that were winning the war. As ANY army knows through all of history, conquering is one thing, but occupation is the hard part.

Which makes me wonder, has anyone ever published a good history of the guns and shells and their relationship to the armor race?

Hi Jeff,

Im glad you have had an easy time obtaining the kit, if you can advise the best way to purcvhase it would be much appreciated!

For anyone who has the kit, do you know whether or not the side tracks come apart like the actual tank...they come off and become a trailer..can you do this with the kit?

Thanks,
Rich
