Welcome aboard Claibert! Glad to have you here.

These couple pics are the best I could come up with... for now. The first two are an armored shield - for small arms protection, while the third one is stated as being a mud guard.

Hope that helps.

Great pics, Ken!

I think that last jeep may have shields made from plywood and scrap lumber. Look at the construction, then look at how high the jeep's body sits on the suspension. The addition is not adding much weight. In contrast, look how close to the front tires the front fenders are on the "twin bazooka" jeep.

I'd like to see a few detail shots of the bazooka jeep, but I'll bet I could rustle up a nifty conversion just using these two shots!. Thanks.

Cool pictures Kencelot! I've seen Eduard's set that adds the front armor but never saw a picture of a jeep with the armor installed. I am in the process of building two convoy escort MUTTs. Thanks to you I may have to add another project on the to do list.

Cheers,

You're quite welcome for the shots. I know I have another one or two somewhere. I need a secretary to keep track of all these picture collections!

Bob, that twin bazooka jeep looks to be a simple enough conversion. It looks to be using a modified standard 50cal pedestal. The side and front armor would be simple enough. I'm sure that by just cutting plasticard to fit (remove the windscreen of course) would work just fine. Remember, these were all field mods. So I'm sure there was no set "blueprint" to follow. You are correct in that the last jeep used plywood for making those "mud" guards.
Bob, if you build one, I for one would love to see it!

Bombshell sir, same goes for you! I would love to see either one of these mods built.
I saw Eduards PE set # 35249 too. Hmmm...

remove the windscreen of course

Not so fast, Ken. Look again. The windshield is there -- it's just folded forward and covered with canvas.

I agree, this would be an easy conversion to make a cool little field-expedient "tank destroyer" -- maybe this inspired the recoilless rifle jeeps that came later?

A couple other things about this photo strike me: notice that the rear passenger seat is still in place (wouldn't want to be sitting there!). The passenger/gunner has some kind of raised seat. I also love that dude's cheesy mustache -- don't see many mustaches on U.S. troops in WWII.

Whoa! Right you are sir! I didn't notice the windscreen's hinge still mounted on the passenger's side. I would imagine just a simple seat frame could be scratched for the gunner.
Did you notice the rifle holster stuffed in the passenger side too?

Here's another pic of a few armored jeeps heading in toward the "Bulge". I like the plate added to the front grill.

PS: Bob, in these examples the windscreen is definetly removed.

This is one which shows very nice mud guards (though certainly not armored) - only for Generals!

And this is demands further research: (I will also add this pic to the post where the guy was looking for rocket launcher WC's) It has 12 tubes, is called the "blowpipes", and was used in Alsace, France in 1944.

Bob, build us this one!
