Is it possible to convert the Tamiya SdKfz 232 8-rad to a 231 6-rad just by cutting off the front of the 8? The general hull shapes look similar but I'm not really sure about their sizes.

No. Sorry, John, they are nowhere near the same vehicles other than both being armored cars. The 232 is bigger and significantly wider.
