Hi guys,
I have a real hard time telling the Stryker variants M1127 Reconnaissance Vehicle and M1131 Fire Support Vehicle apart.
What are the major external differences that allow proper identification?
Sorry for the somewhat silly question, but I googled for hours and am even more confused than before.
I'm asking because I saved some pictures of said variants but there seems to be uncertainty which variant they actually show. Like some sources claim it is an M1127, others state it's an M1131 on the very same picture.
Any help is much appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
Johannes

Externally they are basically the same. The FSV has a few more antennas, but that is all. The rest is in the interior with extra radios, a FS computer system, and operator's station in the FSV.

Hallo Johannes,
The only safe way to decide a FSV from a RV is the mounting for the sensor head. The M1131 FSV mount has rectangular corners and is slightly "V" shaped. On the M1127 RV the LRAS sensor mounting has rounded corners and is "H" shaped. You might check your references for this features.

Gentlemen,
please excuse my letting you wait, but there was too much stuff I had to get done last week.
Anyway, thank you for your replies! At first I thought it was possible to determine the correct vehicle by checking whether it had smoke dischargers mounted. But as it turned out, it was just a naive thinking on my part and a lucky coincidence with the first few pictures I got.
Just to make sure, this is an RV, right? (warning, large images ahead!)

... and these two would be FSVs?

Again, thanks heaps for your assistance!

P.s.: I guess I won't be able to identify all my references correctly, because of the angles of some of the photos.

Hi Johannes,
you can use my pics on Primeportal for getting the differences between M1127 and M1131. But you are right, depanding the angle of the pics, it`s hard to identify both vehicles. Another possibilty are the bumper codes, but again its a matter of the pic. To ge honest, when I saw the Strykers on the recent Saber Junction FTX, I had to look twice for getting a proper identification.

A few examples for Stryker RV and FSV bumper codes:
L and M Companies of 2nd CAV are the designated Recon companies driving M1127 RV.
M1131 FSV are attached to the rifle and recon companies, for example 1/2 CAV B-40 is the bumper code of an FSV of 1st Squadron, B company.
Not easy but I hope it helps.
