The Tamiya Zim Applicator is great and it works well with Tamiya's Polyester Putty. HYere are some pics of work in Progress of some of my zim jobs with each. These Pics have been posted before.
The technique is very easy and if ya ever need help, please do not hestiate to email me at [email protected] .
Cheers

Thanks sgtreef. Well if you are going to be building a Porshe Turret, the zim is a must. Unless you are going to build a Prototype Porche Turret. I agree about the Zim-it-rite. It is awesome stuff, but does dry a tad faster then the Polyester Putty. They are basically the same consistency also.

Yes, after the major hull and turret parts are assembled.
Else, you will damage your PE bits and find yourself having to try and "zimm around" all of the surface-mounted items. Just take note of where each item goes, perhaps use a tooth pick tip and clean up the locating pinholes, before the zimm paste hides all the locations.
Also, don't put the putty on too thick!!
Think of the scale appearance of the thickness.
Looking at some of the old tank pics of German armor, notice that you can barely tell if there even is a zimm coating unless the pics were taken up close to the vehicle.
Gun travel lock - don't zimm it.
The Germans typically tended to only zimm those verticle surfaces that could be reached by a foot soldier holding a magnetic mine.
That's why they didn't have zimm on turret or hull roofs, and only halfway up the hull sides of Ferdinands and Sturmtigers. However I have seen pics of Hitlerjugend PzIV's with zimm applied to almost every visible surface!
