Hey

I would not buy nor recommend the Tamiya zimmerit set; the detail is very soft and unconvincing. Here's a build review with the application of it on the new Tamiya Elephant:

After looking at the review pictures, I have to agree with Alexander that the Tamiya zim doesn't look that good. I'm not so much bothered by the "soft" look as I am by the fitting issues.

IMHO DML's Elephant with zimmerit is a much better choice. Anything but Tamiya!

After looking at the build review for the kit, I saw nothing wrong with it, except the 2 welded up vision slots. The rest of it looked accurately done with some pretty nice detail.

Of course, that's neither here or there since he's talking of using the Dragon kit.

Having just written a review of the Tamiya Elefant with the Zim sheet, I thought I'd share some views on the subject.

The Zim is certainly on the shallow side of ideal if you were looking for a "Factory Fresh" look. But it's fine for a vehicle that has been in theatre for a while.

I ended up distressing the hell out of it, after which it looked fine.

My main issue was the cost, both of the kit (£55-£59 in the UK), and the Zimmerit which is a must have.

To me, the weakest points of the Tamiya zimmerit are the areas around the bolts of the nose. And these also happen to be one the most prominent areas too.

I believe ATAK has released one of their nice (and proven) sets for the Tamiya Elefant too.

That's a no-brainer decision, IMHO.
