Ok so I'm scratching an old wound and have looked at past forum but still have not seen any direct answers yet, I am getting the Dragon M1 panther II kit for the lower hull, but my main question is which turret to use, Trumpeter, old Dragon, Academy, or Tamiya. I know there is a correct picture some where of what's wrong with each turret but could not find it. Also have the older AFV club tracks that have chevron. Gino, Sabot, Pawel, anybody else have any answers?

Hi Gilbert,
I only once saw an M1 IP for real (and didn`t take enough pics, shame on me). According to the Hunnicutt book, the iP is basicly an M1 with encreased turret fron armor and the M1A1 bustle rack. I think the only way to create a real IP is somehow to get the old Tamiya M1 kit, enhance the turret front and add an AM turret basket.
So this call goes out to some Chinese companies: Create a plan vanilla M1 kit and give some modifications for the M1 IP.
Hmm.. another point to propose to Trumpeter next year!
Cheers

Go to Pawel "VODNICK" Krupowicz's site:
http://vodnik.net/index_gal.htm
click on "Features" and go to the "Comparison of M1A1/M1A2 Abrams kits" page. You can't get more info about the different kits than what he provides.

Hi, try this link of a build over on Missing Lyn, looks like he converted a tamiya M1A1 turret.

My understanding is that IP's could have either the short turret (Tamiya's original M1 Abrams) or the longer, uparmoured ones (M1A1 turret)?

I concur with Jim. Early ones were built with original M1 (short) turrets. Later ones were built with longer DU front glacis (M1A1-type) turrets as the production batches changed. Both had the M68 105mm main guns.
