Hi,

I'm looking for some help on finishing Meng's Tortoise. The kit comes complete with what appear to be two lights situated either side of the rear plate. Are these strobe lights? (did they even have strobe lights in the 40's?). The Tortoise at Bovington has these missing and Meng's instructions do not ask for them to be painted any particular colour, suggesting they are painted the vehicle colour. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Do you mean this one at the right of picture?

If so, it's a tail light, with red lens.

Hi Tom,

No, I'm referring to what is attached to the right of the exhaust in the picture. On the photo toucan see a fixing point with a strap between the exhaust and the external phone box. On the model this appears to be a lamp? One is provided each side.

Sorry - yes, that's a fire extinguisher bracket next to the exhaust.

Blimey, thanks for that. I've been looking at these things for ages convinced they were some sort of lamp!

The extinguishers could also be brass and have no paint at all.

Hi Darren,

On that rear fender, what are the two vertical brackets sticking up in front of the extinguisher & telephone box? Brackets for a number plate like the one on the front?

It is my belief that it is for a number plate as there is the one on the front.

Seems the best guess. I'm still debating whether to do mine as the Bovington display, or as a "runner" in 1945. Sadly mine is currently under lock & key, to be wrapped & returned for Xmas...
