Hi
I'm new here so that probably explains my confusion to some extent
I understand Johnsons Klear isn't available anymore? Or at least the new stuff isnt any good for modelling? However I see loads of posts where people are applying a coat of "klear". I could understand if they were American and were referring to Future as I think it's known there. But they're not, they're from the UK and talking about Klear
Do people have vast stockpiles of the original recipe, or are they using an alternative?
Thanks in advance. I do try to find the answer before posting - honest!

See if you can find Testors laquer based clear coat. Just make sure you use this stuff in a well vented area because it is potent.

You can decant gloss clear from a spray can. It's already thinned, so you can run it through your airbrush or brush it on.

Andy, I believe it is sold in the UK under the name 'Pledge Multi-Surface Wax'- here's a pic of the bottle:
I use it- it isn't a clear liquid in this bottle though, but it works the same as the old stuff and I refer to it as 'Klear' when I use it simply because thats what most people know it as. Hope this helps you out a bit.

Hi Andy, just to echo above reply, that's what I'm using also. One point though, it does give quite a pleasing sheen though not a high gloss but beware it also will darken down your paint shade, best to test before application.

A lot of people still have the original formula bottles,I know some guys who have 5-10 of them, and the stuff lasts years. I personally spent £18 on buying a bottle from ebay, which may seem like a lot but then I had tried all other alternatives and this stuff really is the t*ts!

Thanks for your help guys. Can I just klear one thing up ;-)
Is the new "multi surface wax" ok to use? Thanks to the guys who replied saying they use it, but I've read plenty saying it doesn't work????

I've used the new pledge 'multi-surface wax' formula on many builds and never had any problems with it- the only thing to watch for is that, when airbrushing it onto a model, over-saturating an area can create runs of the liquid on the surface.
