I have a Hummel late that I have recently painted and weathered. I had intentions of adding a very faded white wash to this spg, but I am loving the way the finish has turned out so far. I have already assembled and weathered some fruil model panzer4 winter tracks and don't want to start over with regular tracks. So my question is did all german vehicles that had the winter tracks put on have a white wash applied to it as well???? I have no pictures to support this.
Thanks guys!

Nathan:
Hi!
I posted on this query over on T-L (hey, both of us are also over there - SMALL world ) - so I'll just say here that there seem several "legit" options for you to both have your winterketten on and some or most or maybe even all white-wash off. They probably got installed before snows were actually deep and maybe before whitewash was applied, they remained on after snows were gone and WW worn off, and maybe even there could be clever opportunities to show a vehicle being dressed for winter.
I'll be waiting to see which way you decide to jump, and of course to see the monster come out!

Remember, Winterketten were installed for lower ground pressure, better flotation of the tank on non solid surfaces. So they worked equally well in the famous Russian mud! I'm sure you can find dozens of photos of AFV's with their whitewash gone but retaining their Winterketten for the spring thaw and seas of mud to come!

There are a fair number of books out there that say there were at times shortages of the whitewash, and other times where it was available, but not applied. Given those factors, I'd say you would be accurate in not using it.
