Am brand new to Military modeling. Am building 2 Military jeeps. One is 1966-69 circa and the other is WWII. Can someone please help me with selecting proper shade(s) of military green for these dates to use on these jeeps? I plan on using Tamiya as this is what I have access to. However, I would be open to any brand suggestions as well. Thank you in advance.

Hi Jim and welcome to Armormama! You came to the right place. Newbies to Masters, everybody here is friendly and ready to help and share.
A critical question before talking paint lines is: are you brush painting or airbrushing? Makes a big difference.

There are several different shades of green that were used, what theatre of war are you depicting your jeep, europe pacific?? Even the different branches of service used different shades, as for tamiya paints, they have several that would work great, also the lifecolor, vallejo series etc.

What might be my Tamiya choices for either theater? How about circa 65 -69?

I just recently, as in yesterday, finished my first model in quite a few years (about 15 to be approximate), and it was a Tamiya Willys Jeep. It was painted exclusively in Tamiya Acrylics, and weathered with chalk pastels and enamel thinner. Here is the link to where some pictures of it are --> https://armorama.kitmaker.net/forums/200173&page=1
I used the following colors when painting it -
(Flat Colors - XF__)
XF1 - Flat Back -> Gauge faces and buckles
XF2 - Flat White -> Gauge details
XF7 - Flat Red -> Fire Extinguisher and reflectors/tail lights
XF49 - Khaki -> Seats
XF51 - Khaki Drab -> Sleeping bag and Barracks Bag
XF62 - Olive Drab -> Main body
XF64 - Red Brown -> Tool handles and M1919A4 Grip
XF85 - Rubber Black -> Kinda self explanitory...
(Gloss Series - X__)
X10 - Gun Metal -> Exhaust and M1919A4
X11 - Chrome Silver -> headlight buckets and side mirror X12 - Gold Leaf -> Top handle of fire extinguisher
X18 - Semi-Gloss Black -> Shifter and transfer case knobs
Also, I found that using an airbrush with these paints (I buy the 10mL size) using either the Tamiya X-20A Acrylic Thinner or Rubbing Alchohol and thin the paints to Tamiya's specs (found on thier website) I had zero issues airbrushing the above colors.
Hope this helps, and remember - POST PICS!

Tamiya xf58 might work too if you're gonna do USMC, which seems to be a more true olive color. Also Lifecolor has a 6 color set of paints for US vehicles, one color in this set is faded olive, which is a great color... you can also do a whitewashed jeep for a winter scene, navy/shore patrol had a bluish grey on theirs... red and white checkerboard for an airfield jeep, some late sixties M38 jeeps had a lighter shade of green, polly scale paints has a color called USMC green which might look great for your late 60's jeep...

And for the WWII jeep, nothing beats Tamiya XF-62 Olive Drab. Nothing!
