I want to eventually make a dio of a French gas station around 1940. Problem is, I can't find any good pictures of them. Tried Google with no results.

Does anybody have any decent pics of French gas stations they can share?

It is just a pump front of a garage.

A link with many live image from 1940, so you will be able to found some intersting pictures.
All of them are video.

You can also try this:
INA Institut National de l'Audiovisiel
It is the french National Institut of Audiovisual.
If you are lucky enough you may found your photos.

Hope this will help you .
Cheers Alexander

Websites dedicated to old postcards should be of interest as well :

Looks like gas is not the only liquid available here :

If you've got some time to spare, you'll find TONS of inspiring pics in this thread from a French forum (but pics speak by themselves ) :

Hi,

Anyone notice that in all the photos the people appear to be smoking in very close proximity to the petrol pumps. Obviously no 'Health and Safety Police' in those days.

All the best,

Paul
