I want to create a dio with a Custom Dioramic building, sidewalks, lamps, and a street. I have everything in hand except the cobbelstone street. I see two choices. Use two sheets of Custom Dioramic's CUD 6013 street. Or, use Plastruct embossed styrene cobbelstone (PS-73 Random Rock). Can I get some feedback from users of either of these two products? If you use something else, by all means, let me know.
thanks

Here some stuff I found in a jewlery store that also sold figurines and other stuff.
Fullsize
It PVC sheet and is about 24" by 24". I think a little dry brushing with some grays will make it look ok.
Fullsize
These are the guys that make it. I seem to remember payiny about 10 bucks for it.

You can see what it looks like for scale effect.

Here's two types of road you can use:
Hope it helps. It's just my 2 cents :-)
Mark
- You can buy the Department 56 (christmas figurine and display company) road sections. Here are two links: Fabric Cobblestone Road and Park Cobblestone Road
- Another way is to use lentils (or pebbles) and some type of plaster. You glue the lentils or pebbles where you want your road section. Than you spread the plaster over the lentils or pebbles but let the tops of them show to give the cobblesone effect. Here is a link that explains it a little differently: Home-made Cobblestone Road
Hope it helps. It's just my 2 cents :-)

I like the look of the park cobblestone. Looks like the paving you would see in a larger town or city. A lot of folkes forget that cobblestones were also laid in a pattern with blocks of stone cut to the same size. We did this in a small town I lived in only they used paving bricks. No mortor and they last a long time if done right, same with cobblestones.

I have that stuff... Quite nice, but lacks a bit in depth and texture.

Mark--I am really concentrating on improving my sub standard skill level with dioramas. So, I started by getting one of those poster size eraseable white sheets. I then placed the house, lamps, side walks, and the two M-8s on it and maneuvered them around to get the right distance and balance. Now, I know I will elevate the sidewalk some what after I see how the street material fits so I am looking how best to get the sideway to the correct height---should I use thin plywood strips?
thanks

You could do that, but it would probably be harder to paint. What I like to do sometimes is make a mold form out of old legos and pour the water mixing type plaster into the mold. It is easy to form into whatever you want after you pour it into the mold and it doesn't dry for a while so that gives you plenty of time to play around with it. I'm actually making a ruined building right now with that method. Or you could even do a hybrid and cross both of the 2 methods together. You could cover the plywood strips with the plaster to give it a cement feel and look. Just some suggestions.

A long (LONG) time ago, I tried to make cobblestones using split dry peas. Though the result looked quite good, it was not really to exact 1/35 size...
The lentils sound like a good idea. They come in a great variety of sizes.
Maybe polyurethane can be used instead of plaster, too. That's more liquid...
Don't forget there's often moss or even grass growing between the cobblestones !

I bought some long green grass like strands. So I plan on cutting them to size, but how do you add rigidity to them?
thanks

It's certainly been a long time for me, but the only place I remember cobbles in that pattern were in a few 'round-a bouts'. None of which were close to my hometown (Preston, England).
My Farthing's worth.

I don't know about rigidity. Sorry . But you could try mixing in with them some other types of grass and weed type materials like oregano, parsley, and thyme. That would give the weeds some variety and make them look more realistic.
