I have just gotten Trumpeter's BMP-1. So far it looks great. i am trying to pin down the dimensions and wanted to know if anyone has run across a turret diameter for it? So far, no luck for me. Look for a review and BLOG soon.

Excellent news. Looking forward to seeing some feedback on this kit, given that it's now been out for a bit, it's surprising that there hasn't been much more out there on this.

I recently received this kit and although I haven't started building it properly yet here are some initial observations:
Turret - My initial impression was that it seemed too small, at least compared to my memory of other representations of this turret. I have the Esci BMP-1 and Zvezda BMD-1 though have yet to dig them out to compare directly. However when dry fitted to the two main hull halves it doesn't look too out of proportion, expecially when compared to photographs such as this http://milinme.files.wordpress.com/2012/01/syrtt-013.jpg.
I can take some comparison photos tomorrow if anyone is really interested.
Interior - There is no interior but the way Trumpeter has made the kit suggests there should be. All the hatches are moulded seperately and feature some basic interior detail. The rear doors even have the inside diesel fuel tanks sections as separate pieces. Maybe the interior would of brought the cost up to high and reduced sales or maybe it will be released seperately?
Tracks - Although I have only cleaned up about half a dozen links, each links clips together nicely and there is no need for any glue! So essentially they could be considered workable! I also have the recent HobbyBoss/Trumpeter T-26 which also features workable (MK style) tracks so I wonder if we might be seeing the start of a welcome trend here!
Not doubt someone better informed will do a more comprehensive review soon but so far I am impressed!

mine just arrived today - cant speak about accuracy - but it looks a really superb and well engineered model - as in rear hull plate integral to the hull. it clicks together - cant wait to start it ....

I have got a ref book from the Armour in Detail series, called BMP 1, Fighting Vehicle, by Andrzej Marchlewski, ISBN 83-903182-1-0, it's very good, cost me £2.99.
It has some drawings in it, but I am not sure to what scale, looks a bit small for 1/35th, what size is the turret diameter on your kit ?, I will see if it matches anything in the book.

That does look nice. I'm working on the Trumpy T-64 currently and it is by far the best Trumpeter kit I have worked on. The details are fantastic and the fit is perfect thus far. The BMP-1 is on my list.

Not even close to my drawings, so they are not 1/35th scale, which is a shame.

I am doing research on the kit right now, just so you all know that it is not forgotten. i am dealing with my sisters wedding, so all the rest of life is on hold until Sunday!
The kit looks very good for the most part, MUCH more accurate than all earlier kits, and much better detail overall. There are some omissions simplifications I will cover in the review and blog. Worth the money for sure.
How is that for a nibble?

Still working on it, still working on getting accurate measurements on the full scale vehicle while I work on the step by step review. I should hope to have it done Wednesday to submit.
