Hi Hi
I'm currently looking for a picture i have in mind showing a Daimler Armoured Car Mk2. It is in a pure scouting role with the turret removed and with a canvas cover and alot of extra stowage. I am working under the assumption that they drove around Arnhem (or the operational area) because that's what the writing under the picture said.
Can anybody find pictures of the kind of vehicle i'm describing?
I nee the "proof" so to say to be sure a "headless" Daimler Armoured Car MK2 drove around the operational area.
Hope you all can help me a bit

I'll look around and see what I can find. No promises but I'll do my best.

hello.it seems to me that what your describing sounds very much like a humber scout car.i talked to my dad who used to drive the big daimlers and he had never heard of a big daimler without a turret.but 30corps commander used to move about in a humber.what you should do is watch a bridge too far.

I've never heard of Daimlers used without their turret....but have seen Humbers and Staghounds used without them.....so I guess anything's possible.

I got to looking through my books and I think I found what you are looking for. I have a copy of Ballantine's Illustrated History of World War II, Battle Book No. 9. "Airborne Carpet, Operation Market Garden". On page 23 there is a picture of a couple of Shermans on the move and in the background there is an armored car. I could be wrong, but I believe it is what you are seeking. I apologize as I don't have the means to post the picture on this site. I might be able to mail you a photo copy of the picture if you would like. I hope this is of some help. I have a couple of other sources to check and I will keep you posted.

Hi Harv
Greet that you found a picture!! Someone over at the ML Allied forum wrote down that ONLY the unit called "the Inns of Court " used Daimler Armoured Cars but then the Mk1.
So, now i only need to know if this unit participated in the Arnhem operation.
Well besides that, i need to backdate my Mk2
