Can you use Alcad II Primer Lacuquer (White Primer & Microfiller) on a model. Then use Tayima Acrylic German Grey as a base coat?
When the primer was dried, it was a glossly white. And now with the German grey on it, the grey has crackled all over the model.
Any thoughts?
Am I using the wrong primer all these years? Or did I get a bad batch?

For NMF is use both Alcad and Model Master Metalizers. I prime problem areas with Tamiya lacquer grey, sand, then re-prime with white lacquer primer, then black gloss if I want a glass smooth finish. If I'm going just for a NMF for bare metal, not polished, then I use Tamiya grey lacquer primer, semi gloss black, then either Alcad II or Metalizers. For a more beat up or weathered NMF I don't even bother with the semi gloss black.

What does NMF stand for? Natural Metal Finish? I'm not looking for a NMF. Just a regular dirty Panzer. Any thoughts?

Yes, NMF stands for Natural Metal Finish. If you're not going for a NMF why even bother with Alcad primer? Tamiya grey and white are a perfect base for any acrylic, enamel, or lacquer based model paint I've ever used.
I've never had any paint cracking issues, but I've heard that it's caused by a few issues:
1-the top coat of paint is too thick.
2-the primer layer in this case didn't completely dry, and or too thick.
3- oils from your fingers on the primer layer.

First one sounds right. I'll just have to re-do (sand it down) and try again. Thanks for the information. Next time I'll invest into Tamyia Primer Rattle Can.

Tom,
That primer comes in grey as well, that's what I use for my planes and have had no issues with Tamiya going over it.
Cheers Rob.
