Hey everyone,
I have a question about this division, why there is a "2" on their insignia but not a "4" instead? It's puzzled me for years and I can not find anything useful to explain that.

Thanks in advance!

Hi md11md;
Soviet Tactical Markings have always been an Enigma,
Try looking them up on the old Panzer Colors series.
It gives a Breakdown on Soviet Divison Markings and may give you some useful Info ! The number 2 could mean almost anything ie) Regt,- within the Div; Sorry that i cant be of more Help
GOOD LUCK; MIKE.

Hey Mike
Thank you so much for you reply! But do you remember the exact name of the book from the Panzer color series? I can only find some German WWII era books.

Thanks again!

Hi md11md;
They were the old Squadron series, Panzer Colors. There were three (3) in the series, have you looked on the WEB Type in unit history of Kantermereovets tank Divison,
You will pull the History of this Unit, A Brief Breakdown of
Battles, People, etc; But it does not talk about your subject
The Wreath or the Number 2, Looking at the pic you posted are you sure its the # 2 and not a Crillic letter of the Alphabet.
REGARDS; MIKE.

Looks like sometimes it can be a "3" (found this one here : http://en.rian.ru/photolents/20070928/81506899_9.html)

...or a "1" just like in this video

http://www.defencetalk.com/80u-bmp-2-4th-separate-tank-brigade-37575/

Talking about the T-80U shown in this video with the "1" on the searchlight cover, I've noticed that this tank has a "221" painted on the turret side... Could the single "1" refer to the "1" in "221" ?

The very same tank can be seen here (along with a few others) :

On a side note, this unit is now called "4th Separate Tank Brigade"

I think there might be a problem. Please take a look on this BMP-2, the number is 304 but it still with "2" though.

I see what you mean. So it was probably just a coincidence
